A winter's day
In deep and dark December
I am alone gazing from my window
to the streets below on a freshly fallen
silent shroud of snow
I am a rock
I am an island

12월의 어느 겨울 날
소리 없이 갓 내린 눈에
뒤덮인 거리를 창문으로
혼자서 바라 보고 있어요
나는 바위에요
나는 섬이에요
I build walls
A fortress deep and might
That none may penetrate
I have no need of friendship
Friendship causes pain
It's laughter and it's loving I disdain
I am a rock
I am an island
나는 벽을 쌓아요
아무도 들어 올 수 없는
굳건한 성을 지어요
친구는 필요 없어요
친구는 고통만 줄 뿐이에요
나는 웃음과 사랑을 경멸해요
나는 바위에요
나는 섬이에요
Don't talk of love
Well, I've heard the word before
It's sleeping in my memory
I won't disturb the slumber
of feelings that have died
If I never loved
I never would have cried
I am a rock
I am an island
사랑은 얘기하지 말아요
나도 사랑이란 말을 들어 봤어요
이제는 사라진 채 기억 속에
잠자고 있는 그 사랑을 감정을
깨우지 않겠어요
사랑하지 않았다면
눈물도 흘리지 않았겠지요

I have my books
And my poetry to protect me
I am shielded in my armor
Hiding in my room, safe within my room
I touch no one
And no one touches me
I am a rock

내게는 책이 있어요
나를 지켜줄 시도 있어요
나는 갑옷으로 안전해요
내 방에 안전하게 숨어
아무에게도 손대지 않고
아무도 내게 손대지 못해요
나는 바위에요
나는 섬이에요
And a rock feels no pain
And an island never cries
